Occupational-health programs for employers

Coordinate commercial-driver medical examinations, authorized drug and alcohol testing and appropriate clinical follow-up. The DOT physical, drug-testing program and personal chronic-condition care have separate requirements.

Prepare the requested service

Provide job duties, the authorized service list, employee groups, locations, deadline and payment contact. For covered employers, conditional-offer examinations and post-employment medical questions must follow the ADA’s applicable limits.

Results and follow-up

Agree on the specific services, qualified professionals, costs, result review and reports. A general occupational-health program does not by itself satisfy every DOT, OSHA, workers’ compensation or agency requirement.

Arrange the employer program

Confirm the service list, employee eligibility, locations, dates, employer authorization, payment arrangements and reporting contacts with the employer-service team. Give employees the correct appointment instructions and a route for questions or missed appointments. Confirm any proposed workplace event or outside collection site before arranging attendance.

Employee privacy and reporting

Employers should receive only the information needed for the authorized work request. Agree on completion reports, restrictions or other necessary documentation and who may see them. Covered employers must keep medical information confidential and separate from ordinary personnel files. An employee’s personal treatment needs remain a confidential clinical matter.

Questions about employer services

What are DOT physicals, and why are they required?

A DOT physical evaluates whether a commercial driver meets the applicable FMCSA medical qualification requirements. A medical examiner on the National Registry performs the examination and makes the certification decision. Bring your license and tell the clinic whether you hold a CDL, CLP or another commercial-driver category. The medical certificate, your state license and an employer drug test are separate parts of the driver workflow.

The examiner reviews your health history, medications and ability to perform commercial driving duties. The examination includes measurements and assessments such as blood pressure, vision, hearing and urinalysis, with additional evaluation when the findings require it. Urinalysis used in the physical checks medical findings such as glucose or protein. It does not automatically complete a DOT drug screen, which needs its own order, collection documents, laboratory and review process.

Does Nao Medical offer on-site health services for transportation teams?

Ask the employer-service team to plan occupational-health programs for employers at the requested worksite. Provide the headcount, shifts, location and deadline. Agree on trained staff, equipment, privacy, accessibility, dates, charges, documentation and any necessary specimen transport. Confirm clinic follow-up for employees who cannot complete the service at the event.

Are the drug and alcohol testing services DOT-compliant?

Identify the requirement that applies to the job and the actual service. DOT drug and alcohol testing uses its prescribed collection, laboratory and review process; OSHA respirator, hearing and other workplace requirements have different rules. Confirm the qualified professional, required protocol and documentation for the requested assignment rather than relying on a general compliance claim.

What types of chronic conditions do you manage for drivers? How quickly can drivers access DOT exams or medical services?

Drivers can discuss concerns such as high blood pressure, diabetes, sleep-apnea symptoms or other issues that affect health and driving duties. Personal treatment and a DOT qualification examination have different purposes. Ask about the next available DOT or clinical appointment, and bring the requested forms, medicines and records. The examiner decides whether any condition meets the applicable standard; a same-day visit does not guarantee a medical certificate or completed test results.

Will the employer receive my entire medical record?

Employers should receive only the information needed for the authorized work request. Agree on completion reports, restrictions or other necessary documentation and who may see them. Covered employers must keep medical information confidential and separate from ordinary personnel files. An employee’s personal treatment needs remain a confidential clinical matter.
