Patient appointments
A daily pill may be worth discussing when plaque psoriasis needs more than creams. ICOTYDE is the brand name for icotrokinra, an FDA-approved oral IL-23 receptor antagonist. A treatment review should address your skin, safety history, daily routine and a workable refill plan.
An appointment does not confirm access to a particular medicine, procedure or specialist. Ask the team about the care and coverage you need.
Medical information checked against current US sources: October 19, 2026.
The US indication covers moderate-to-severe plaque psoriasis in adults and children age 12 or older who weigh at least 40 kg, about 88 pounds, and are candidates for systemic therapy or phototherapy. A clinician must establish the diagnosis and decide whether systemic treatment is appropriate. A persistent rash alone does not establish psoriasis.
Bring photographs taken during flares and a record of creams, light treatment or systemic medicines you have tried. Mention scalp, genital, hand, foot and nail symptoms, sleep disruption and effects on work or daily activities. These details help explain the burden of disease; they do not guarantee approval or a prescription.
ICOTYDE blocks the receptor for IL-23, a signal involved in psoriasis inflammation. It is an oral peptide, rather than an injected monoclonal-antibody biologic. The approved prescription product is different from an unregulated product sold as a research peptide.
Its current US approval is for plaque psoriasis. It is not an approved treatment for psoriatic arthritis, Crohn’s disease or ulcerative colitis. New swollen joints, prolonged morning stiffness or persistent bowel symptoms need their own assessment, even if the skin improves.
Discuss current or recurrent infections, past tuberculosis and treatment, vaccine history, kidney disease, all medicines, pregnancy plans and breastfeeding. The label says to consider TB evaluation based on clinical judgment and to complete age-appropriate vaccinations before treatment. Live vaccines should be avoided during treatment.
The labeled regimen is one 200 mg tablet each day on waking, on an empty stomach with water, followed by at least 30 minutes before food. Swallow it whole. If swallowing is difficult, ask the pharmacist about the exact water-dispersion method. A medicine that fits your morning routine is easier to take consistently.
Agree on what improvement would mean for you: less itching, fewer painful plaques, clearer difficult sites or better sleep. Trial assessments at weeks 16 and 24 are useful research milestones, not a promise that you will be clear by a particular day. Record progress and new symptoms for the follow-up visit.
Before relying on samples, confirm the dispensing pharmacy, prior authorization, expected cost and who handles refills. A sample or a visit payment does not prove ongoing drug coverage. If you want a Nao appointment, confirm the appropriate clinician and service before booking; a general appointment is not a confirmed ICOTYDE prescription.
It is neither an injectable monoclonal-antibody biologic nor a corticosteroid. Icotrokinra is a targeted oral peptide that blocks the IL-23 receptor. Being a pill does not remove infection precautions or make it appropriate for every patient. Use the FDA-approved prescription product and review its safety information with the prescriber.
Yes. The FDA first approved ICOTYDE in March 2026 for qualifying plaque psoriasis. Approval is separate from a pharmacy having stock, a clinician choosing it and an insurer authorizing the prescription. Confirm those steps before making plans around a treatment start date.
Scalp involvement was evaluated in the clinical program, including patients with difficult-to-treat sites. Tell the clinician about itch, scale, hair-care difficulties and prior scalp treatments. The medicine is approved for qualifying plaque psoriasis, but a trial result does not guarantee scalp clearance for an individual. An examination can also distinguish psoriasis from other scalp conditions.
ICOTYDE’s current US indication does not include psoriatic arthritis. A person can have skin and joint disease together, and improvement in plaques does not prove that joint inflammation is controlled. Report persistent stiffness, swelling, heel pain or a swollen finger or toe promptly so the treatment plan can cover the correct diagnosis.
Ask for the written denial reason. It may involve the diagnosis, required records, previous treatments, the formulary or the pharmacy. The prescribing team can review whether additional information or an appeal is appropriate. Check current manufacturer support eligibility separately, and plan affordable refills before a sample supply ends. No program or appeal guarantees approval.
You can review Nao locations and appointment options, then ask which clinician can assess your psoriasis concerns and whether specialist follow-up is needed. Confirm the service at that location before traveling. Consultation, prescribing, pharmacy supply and insurance authorization are separate steps.
