Aristada Initio is not a recurring maintenance injection and is not interchangeable with Aristada. The current label describes one 675 mg Aristada Initio injection with one 30 mg oral aripiprazole dose in connection with the first Aristada injection. Nao can coordinate an accepted outside psychiatrist's initiation plan or provide psychiatric evaluation and management when needed. The complete prescriber-led sequence is confirmed before administration.
Evaluation comes before treatment
Two ways to coordinate care: If an outside psychiatrist prescribes and manages the treatment, Nao can review an accepted order and records for in-clinic administration. If the patient needs Nao to manage treatment, Nao psychiatry can evaluate, prescribe when appropriate, and provide follow-up. Product, order, delivery, staff, and site are confirmed separately.
Initio is a starter product
Initio is a distinct one-time injection used in selected Aristada start or restart plans for adults with schizophrenia. It is not the maintenance injection repeated every month or two months. A labelled initiation also includes an oral aripiprazole dose and a separate first Aristada injection. The prescriber checks oral tolerability and interactions before choosing this path. Ask which product is the starter and which is the ongoing medicine, and leave with the maintenance appointment already identified.

How Aristada Initio works

Preparing for your appointment
Bring the written plan for both injections and any oral dose. Check which medicine is arriving from the pharmacy and when the maintenance injection will be given. Explain any previous aripiprazole side effects, allergies or difficulty taking tablets. If the plan or product name is unclear, ask the prescriber to resolve it before administration. Do not accept “aripiprazole shot” as a complete product identifier.
Risks and when to seek help
The boxed warning states that antipsychotics increase the risk of death in older adults with dementia-related psychosis. This medicine is not approved for that use. Risks include movement disorders, restlessness, metabolic changes, dizziness, sedation and compulsive behaviours associated with aripiprazole. Report confusion or changes in attention so the clinician can assess medicines, symptoms and other causes. Avoid driving or hazardous tasks until you know how treatment affects you. Seek emergency care for severe trouble breathing, throat or tongue swelling, loss of consciousness, or high fever with severe muscle stiffness and confusion. Contact the treating team promptly for new involuntary movements, severe restlessness, worsening psychosis, marked dizziness or troublesome injection-site symptoms. Do not wait for the next routine injection to report a serious concern.
Follow-up and treatment review
The team should document the Initio date, oral component and first maintenance Aristada date. If the maintenance dose is delayed, contact the prescriber instead of assuming the starter injection covers any length of delay. Future missed doses require the Aristada-specific table, not automatic repetition of Initio.

Ask whether the medicine order and authorization cover both the starter and maintenance products and the relevant administration visits. Confirm delivery of each product before travelling. Does the first Aristada injection have to be given the same day?
When the prescriber chooses the Aristada Initio start, the first Aristada maintenance injection may be given the same day as Initio or up to 10 days afterward. The initiation regimen also includes the prescribed single oral aripiprazole dose, and oral tolerability must be established first. Can I book the injection before the medication is delivered?
You can ask about scheduling while sourcing is underway, but an injection appointment should be treated as confirmed only after the team accepts the exact order and confirms the medicine's arrival, clinician and required initiation steps. Aristada Initio must be linked to its prescribed oral dose and first Aristada plan. Ask who will notify you if delivery is delayed. Do not travel assuming the injection is available.
Will Nao accept an outside psychiatrist's initiation order?
An administration or monitoring service does not automatically replace the treating prescriber. Agree on who manages the diagnosis and other medicines, signs the treatment order, reviews laboratory results, records doses and handles missed visits or urgent symptoms. An outside clinician can remain involved when the services accept and coordinate that arrangement. Confirm the handoff before relying on a new service for a refill or injection.
