Fasenra is not FDA approved for COPD

Severe eosinophilic asthma

The May 2026 label also includes adult EGPA and HES in adults and patients age 12 and older. Those conditions require appropriate specialist direction.

Controller medicines, rescue treatment, response measures, adverse-effect follow-up, and specialist responsibility remain part of the plan.

What to expect from evaluation through follow-up

The order and timing depend on diagnosis, specialist responsibility, coverage, medication or infusion acquisition, the accepted care site, and clinical follow-up.

1. Review diagnosis and control

Bring pulmonary or allergy records, inhalers, refill history, eosinophil results, oral-steroid courses, emergency visits, admissions, and prior biologic use.

2. Apply the current indication

The clinician confirms phenotype, age, weight when relevant, controller optimization, safety history, and whether Fasenra is the selected product.

3. Coordinate authorization and delivery

The team reviews benefits, documentation, prior authorization, specialty-pharmacy or medical-benefit handling, patient cost, and the accepted delivery site.

4. Confirm administration and monitoring

Only after medication receipt and site approval does the team confirm injection timing, observation needs, response tracking, and refill responsibility.

Current Fasenra label facts

The current U.S. prescribing information was revised in May 2026. It expanded the product's labeled eosinophilic-disease uses but did not add COPD.

Fasenra is benralizumab, an IL-5 receptor alpha-directed biologic given by subcutaneous injection.
For asthma in patients age 12 and older, the labeled schedule is 30 mg every four weeks for the first three doses, then every eight weeks.
For children age 6 through 11 with severe eosinophilic asthma, the labeled dose is based on whether body weight is below 35 kg or at least 35 kg.
EGPA and HES have separate labeled populations and dosing. A specialist must confirm the diagnosis and exact regimen rather than borrowing the asthma schedule.

Coverage, acquisition, and care-site planning

Fasenra safety and monitoring

Hypersensitivity reactions, including anaphylaxis, angioedema, hives, and rash, have occurred. Reactions may begin within hours or later.
Fasenra is not rescue treatment for sudden bronchospasm or status asthmaticus. Continue the prescribed rescue plan.
Do not abruptly stop inhaled or systemic corticosteroids when Fasenra begins. Any reduction must be gradual and supervised.
Treat pre-existing helminth infections before treatment. The clinician may interrupt Fasenra if an infection does not respond to anti-helminth treatment.
