Occupational-health programs for employers

Coordinate physicals, drug and alcohol testing, and medical review across employee locations. The employer-service team can help define appointments, authorizations, costs and permitted reports for your program.

Prepare the requested service

Provide job duties, the authorized service list, employee groups, locations, deadline and payment contact. For covered employers, conditional-offer examinations and post-employment medical questions must follow the ADA’s applicable limits.

Results and follow-up

Agree on the specific services, qualified professionals, costs, result review and reports. A general occupational-health program does not by itself satisfy every DOT, OSHA, workers’ compensation or agency requirement.

Arrange the employer program

Confirm the service list, employee eligibility, locations, dates, employer authorization, payment arrangements and reporting contacts with the employer-service team. Give employees the correct appointment instructions and a route for questions or missed appointments. Confirm any proposed workplace event or outside collection site before arranging attendance.

Employee privacy and reporting

Employers should receive only the information needed for the authorized work request. Agree on completion reports, restrictions or other necessary documentation and who may see them. Covered employers must keep medical information confidential and separate from ordinary personnel files. An employee’s personal treatment needs remain a confidential clinical matter.

Questions about employer services

Will the employer receive my entire medical record?

Employers should receive only the information needed for the authorized work request. Agree on completion reports, restrictions or other necessary documentation and who may see them. Covered employers must keep medical information confidential and separate from ordinary personnel files. An employee’s personal treatment needs remain a confidential clinical matter.

Does every healthcare worker need a yearly TB test?

CDC does not recommend routine serial TB testing after baseline without known exposure or ongoing transmission. Staff with untreated latent TB have separate symptom-screening and education needs. Local rules and employer requirements can differ, so bring the actual request and earlier results.

Can I complete a work physical virtually?

Some history, record review and follow-up may be appropriate remotely. Specimen collection, vaccinations, many physical measurements and task-specific examinations need in-person services. Ask which parts of your employer’s request can be completed in each setting before booking.

What if the form is incomplete after my visit?

Ask which result, record or clinical review is still needed and who will contact you. Give the employer a realistic status rather than treating an unfinished form as clearance. Complete the medical follow-up and arrange any return reading or examination within its required time.
