TREMFYA treatment questions in NYC and Long Island

TREMFYA is guselkumab, an IL-23-blocking biologic used for certain skin, joint and inflammatory bowel conditions. The right plan starts with the diagnosis: eligibility, dose, route, monitoring and insurance can differ substantially between conditions.

An appointment does not confirm access to a particular medicine, procedure or specialist. Ask the team about the care and coverage you need.

Medical information checked against current US sources: October 19, 2026.

Four uses, different treatment plans

The current US label includes moderate-to-severe plaque psoriasis in patients who are candidates for systemic therapy or phototherapy, and active psoriatic arthritis. For these two indications, patients must be at least six years old and weigh at least 40 kg. Ulcerative colitis and Crohn’s disease indications are for adults with moderately to severely active disease.

A psoriasis regimen is not a substitute for a bowel-disease regimen. If you have skin symptoms plus joint swelling or persistent diarrhea, tell the clinician about all of them. Care may involve dermatology, rheumatology or gastroenterology; booking a general appointment does not establish access to one of those specialists.

How guselkumab works

Guselkumab is a monoclonal antibody that blocks IL-23, a protein involved in inflammation. TREMFYA is not a steroid, a GLP-1 medicine or a general treatment for an undiagnosed rash or stomach problem. It helps control particular inflammatory diseases; it is not a cure.

Discuss past treatments, infections, TB exposure, vaccines, liver history, pregnancy or breastfeeding, and other immune-active medicines. Your care team should explain what improvement means for your condition and how it will be measured.

Injection or infusion?

Plaque psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis use a subcutaneous injection, meaning an injection under the skin. Adults with ulcerative colitis or Crohn’s disease may begin with either intravenous infusions or a different subcutaneous induction regimen. Ongoing maintenance for these bowel conditions is subcutaneous.

The prescribed product, device, dose and administration site must match the plan. Adult home injections require appropriate training. Pediatric self-administration is not recommended in the label; a trained caregiver or healthcare professional administers the dose. Never use an injection pen as an infusion product.

Arrange the right care before booking

Gather the confirmed diagnosis, prior treatment list, recent specialist notes, insurance card and the exact prescription if one exists. Ask who will prescribe, arrange TB evaluation and relevant liver tests, handle authorization, supply the medicine and review response.

Nao appointment options can help you begin a discussion or organize care, but a booked visit does not confirm TREMFYA stock, prescribing, an infusion service or injection administration at a particular clinic. Confirm those arrangements with the team before traveling or having a specialty pharmacy ship medicine.

Questions patients ask

What is TREMFYA used for?

Its US indications cover qualifying plaque psoriasis and active psoriatic arthritis from age six and at least 40 kg, and moderately to severely active ulcerative colitis or Crohn’s disease in adults. Age, weight, diagnosis and disease activity matter. The clinician must choose the appropriate regimen; approval does not guarantee it is right for every patient.

Is TREMFYA a biologic or an immunosuppressant?

It is a biologic monoclonal antibody that changes immune signaling by blocking IL-23. The label warns about infection risk. It does not switch off the whole immune system, but infection history, TB assessment and vaccinations need review. Ask what precautions apply to your work, travel, other medicines and current health.

Is TREMFYA an infusion for psoriasis?

The labeled psoriasis treatment is subcutaneous, not intravenous. An IV induction option exists for adult ulcerative colitis and Crohn’s disease, followed by subcutaneous maintenance. Confirm the diagnosis and prescription before choosing an administration site.

How long does it take to work?

That depends on the condition and the person. The label uses different trial endpoints and assessment times for skin, joint and bowel disease. Agree on the symptoms and objective findings to follow, and a review date. Worsening symptoms or important side effects need earlier contact, not an open-ended wait.

Can I get TREMFYA at any Nao clinic?

Do not assume that a general clinic appointment includes this medicine or its administration. Ask which clinician can address your diagnosis, whether an outside specialist order is needed, and where any prescribed treatment would be supplied and administered. Confirm this before traveling or arranging delivery.

Can children use TREMFYA?

The current label includes plaque psoriasis and active psoriatic arthritis from age six when weight is at least 40 kg. It does not establish a pediatric UC or Crohn’s indication. Pediatric administration requires a healthcare professional or trained caregiver; the label does not recommend children self-injecting.

How does TREMFYA compare with Stelara?

The comparison depends on the condition and previous response. TREMFYA’s label includes a psoriasis trial in patients who responded inadequately to ustekinumab, the medicine in Stelara. That is a specific study population, not proof of a universal winner. Review the diagnosis, prior treatment, current evidence, safety, route and access with the treating clinician before switching.
