Who may be considered for Spravato

Spravato is FDA-approved for adults with treatment-resistant depression and for certain adults with major depressive disorder with acute suicidal thoughts or behavior. Eligibility is not based on a single questionnaire. The care team reviews diagnosis, medication history, current symptoms, medical risk factors, blood pressure, substance-use history when relevant, and whether Spravato can be administered safely in a monitored setting.

Many insurance plans also require documentation before coverage is approved. That can include prior antidepressant trials, current psychiatric diagnosis, symptom history, and provider notes supporting medical necessity.

What can affect eligibility

  • Prior antidepressant treatment history and response.
  • Current depression severity and safety needs.
  • Blood pressure, cardiovascular history, and other medical risks.
  • Medication interactions, pregnancy considerations, and substance-use risk factors.
  • Ability to remain in the clinic for monitoring after dosing.
  • A safe ride home after each treatment session.

What happens after the first review

If Spravato appears appropriate, Nao Medical can begin benefits verification and prior authorization steps. If another treatment path is safer or more appropriate, the team can discuss alternatives, follow-up care, or coordination with your current psychiatrist.
