What is Typhoid disease?

Typhoid fever is a serious disease caused by the Salmonella typhi bacteria, which lives only in humans. Infected persons carry the bacteria in their bloodstream and intestinal tract. Symptoms include a high fever, fatigue, weakness, stomach pains, headache, loss of appetite, and sometimes a rash. If not treated, typhoid fever can be fatal.

FAQ

Is malaria a contagious disease?

No . Malaria is not contagious. You can’t get malaria from infected people. You can only get it when a mosquito carrier bites you.

Who is at risk for malaria?

Anyone can get malaria but those at higher risk are:

  • People who live in or travel to countries with high malaria cases
  • People who got a blood transfusion in countries where malaria cases are high
  • Infected mothers may pass it to their infant before or during childbirth

How soon will a person feel sick after being bitten by an infected mosquito?

After being bitten by an infected mosquito, symptoms may appear after 10 days to 4 weeks, depending on the type of Malaria.

What is the treatment for malaria?

Malaria can be treated with prescription drugs. The type of medicines and the length of treatment will depend on the type of malaria acquired, where the infection is, the age of the patient, and how sick they are.

When should malaria be treated?

The disease should be treated at the earliest possible before it becomes more serious. 

Does my insurance cover my primary care appointment?

At Nao Medical, we accept most major insurance plans, but in order to know if your plan covers the test, we would need to run your insurance and this can only be done at the beginning of your visit. If you would like to know ahead of time, please call the number on the back of your insurance card so a representative may let you know which coronavirus test is covered by your insurance plan.
